NoteHarbor runs independently on desktop Chrome 122+. No Node installation, helper, server, API key or Obsidian plugin is needed. Manage lets you choose English or Simplified Chinese for controls and newly created personal-note templates. Source chats are not translated.
Chrome Web Store installation is not yet available. Core macOS Chrome/Obsidian workflows have passed acceptance. Full Chrome quit/restart and Windows/Edge real-device acceptance remain unverified.
1. Install manually
- Extract the ZIP and keep its folder in a stable location.
- Open
chrome://extensionsin Chrome. Enable Developer mode, choose Load unpacked and select the extracted extension folder. - Open a conversation at chatgpt.com and click the NoteHarbor toolbar icon.
2. Authorize your vault
Open Manage, choose your vault root and grant read/write access. Start with a disposable test vault. Return to the original chat. If permission expires, restore it in Manage.
3. Save conversations or answers
- Save conversation: read the supported available history of the current chat.
- Save this answer: save an answer with its preceding prompt when available.
- Save selected: collect several chosen answers with their prompts.
Select Read & write notes after saving. Obsidian opens the personal note. New notes embed the transcript and provide space for your writing; existing personal notes remain as they are. View transcript opens the managed source file.
Optional tools in Manage
Import JSON/ZIP history, restore folder access, review conflicts or inspect missing attachments. Always show requests optional chatgpt.com access to display controls; it does not enable automatic saving. Automatic updates require a separate opt-in for exact chats and message ranges, with Chrome, the matching tab and permissions available. They read only currently rendered messages, without scrolling unloaded history. Stop updates in Manage; fixed ranges do not add future answers and conflicts pause updates.
Optional OpenAI image access requests images.openai.com for fallback downloads. Supported downloads still need a working URL, supported type and successful access. Explicitly attach local source files in Manage when needed; their links are added to personal notes.
Keep capture limits in mind
Keep the chat open. Inline history scanning is bounded to 90 seconds; attachment attempts share 60 seconds. A recognized ChatGPT failed-render message blocks saving. Online files are limited to 16 MiB each, 32 MiB per batch and 100 items. Local materials allow 64 MiB each, 256 MiB per batch and 100 items. Capture does not prove complete account history.
