IMPORT GUIDE

From an export
to your vault.

This guide covers the website converter. NoteHarbor does not sign into your ChatGPT account or request a data export for you. For current conversations, see extension setup.

1. Keep your source export

Download your data through the export option available in ChatGPT. Availability may vary by account or workspace. Keep the original archive as a backup. Select all numbered conversation JSON files together if the export is split.

2. Open it on your device

Choose the ZIP or JSON in the converter, or try the sample first. A browser worker reads the files locally. Input limits are 100 MB total and 250 MB of expanded ZIP contents.

3. Choose conversations

Search titles or message text, filter by creation date and select conversations. The preview shows generated transcript text. Review attachment results and the import report too; the text preview alone does not prove every attachment is included.

4. Save into Obsidian

Download the Markdown ZIP, extract it and move its NoteHarbor folder into your vault. Alternatively, select Save to vault folder in a supported desktop Chromium browser and grant access.

5. Write in your personal notes

ZIP and folder saving create a personal note for each transcript. Write there to keep your thinking separate from source updates. Download transcript only saves one .md file without personal notes or attachment files; use the ZIP or folder workflow for related files.

The converter reconstructs the available active branch, not every branch or your complete account history. Attachments must uniquely match files in the selected ZIP; the converter does not download online media.
